Clyde Treadwell

Clyde holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from University Of New England and has worked as a Town Planner since 1987.

Clyde held a position within private enterprise at Australian Enviroplan Corporation (also known as Eckford Johnson Enviroplan) from 1987 until April 1994, initially being employed as an Assistant Town Planner and progressed to Town Planner, Senior Town Planner and was made Associate Director in 1990. During this time Clyde was involved in various projects in a variety of roles from team member to Project Co-ordinator.

The roles were extensive in regard to development applications from preparation of simple Statement of Environmental Effects to the preparation of complex Environmental Impact Assessments.  On the strategic planning side, Clyde’s roles ranged from a simple land capability and feasibility assessments, preparation of Development Control Plans for Councils, to Master planning an 850 hectare integrated Residential, Golf and Tourist Resort and co-ordinating the rezoning application process through various levels of Government.

In April, 1994 Clyde moved into Local Government at Maitland City Council until May 1996. This role involved predominantly development assessment as well as being involved in the Project Co-ordination of two amending Local Environmental Plans as well as having input into several development control plans. Clyde was responsible for the preparation of the Council’s Outdoor Advertising Development Control Plan.

From May 1996 until October 2014 Clyde was employed by Coffs Harbour City Council. This role involved development assessment from 1996 until 2000. He then became the Senior Strategic Planner. In 2004 Clyde became the Manager of the Council’s Strategic Planning Unit overseeing a team of eight (8).

In this role Clyde projects ranged from simple land capability and feasibility assessments, preparation of Development Control Plans for Councils, to co-ordinating all rezoning processes of Council with various levels of Government. During this time Clyde co-ordinated and supervised the introduction of a major City Centre LEP and a LGA wide LEP, while also providing planning advice as Council’s planning representative on the pre development advisory panel – Technical Liaison Committee.

From 1999 to 2005 Clyde was Council’s Heritage Contact Officer – providing advice on all heritage related matters.

During Clyde’s time with Council he was a member/representative on the following Council Committees:

  • Heritage Liaison Committee (Initiated this committee and chaired it until 2005)
  • Aboriginal Advisory Committee (Yandaarra) (Committee Member from 1997 – 2014.)
  • Access Committee (Committee Member from 1997 – 2005)

In November 2014 Clyde established a sole trading consultancy called Eco Planning Services. In this role he provided strategic planning services to major corporate clients as well as to “Mum and Dad” developers.

In June 2015 Clyde commenced a short term position with the Regional Operations Group of the Office of Environment and Heritage in Coffs Harbour, being employed via an agency (Nortec). Since that time he has worked as a Conservation Planning Officer providing advice to state government agencies, local government and contractors on Strategic Planning and Major Development matters.

Clyde then commenced a contract position with the Sustainable Environment and Economy Section of Byron Shire Council in Mullumbimby, being employed for a twelve month term. Since that time he has worked, full time, as a Planning Officer determining development applications and providing advice to the Council, the community, state government agencies, other local government and contractors on Byron Shire Council’s Planning and Development matters.
