Gabriel Olivares

Gabriel graduated from Universidad de Las Americas in Santiago de Chile in 2008 with a Diploma in Surveying.  Since completing his diploma, Gabriel has gained valuable experience and international work as a Surveyor in the Chilean mining industry as well as both Australian and Chilean residential high-rise construction and a varied range of civil projects including road and dredging works.

With a growing interest in Drones/UAV’s since 2013, and constantly seeking new knowledge, Gabriel attained his CASA Remote Pilot License in 2017 with a Cert.III in Aviation followed by a Cert.IV in Training & Assessment.  Since then he was employed by Ace Aviation and has been actively committed to the operation of sub 25kg. Heavy lift multirotor and fixed wing RPAS/UAV for both commercial and training applications, attaining invaluable insights on aviation regulation, airspace and the technology that can reshape how remote data acquisition is performed.

Due to his vast experience and knowledge with regards to Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) he is the nominated Chief Remote Pilot under RDM’s Remote Operators Certificate issued and approved by CASA.  With his willingness to share his knowledge, Gabriel was the recent presenter of the Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW webinar on the Use of Drones in Surveying which attracted well over 100 participants.

Gabriel brings with him considerable experience and knowledge, not only in the use of drones for 3D data capture but also in surveying.  Since joining RDM he has been utilised on a number of survey projects including large scale construction set out, railway alignments, digital terrain modelling and various drone mapping surveys.

He holds a number of industrial training qualifications including Rail Industry Safety Induction card; Working at Heights card and CASA Remote Pilots Licence.
