Iain Craig

Iain has over 40 years’ experience as a draftsman in a broad range of projects involving the fields of surveying, environmental planning, urban design, civil and structural engineering, including 25 years’ experience with computer aided drafting and design. His expertise and knowledge of computer aided drafting is held in high regard, particularly with respect to AutoCad.

He commenced his career in 1968 as a trainee draftsman with the then Metropolitan Water, Sewerage and Drainage Board in Sydney. Iain studied at Sydney Technical College and obtained the Land and Engineering Survey Drafting Certificate in 1971. Then in 1973 he commenced work at Hooker Rex Estates as the Chief Draftsman where he designed and drafted land subdivisions and gained valuable experience in road design, earthworks calculations, survey calculations, aerial photo interpretation and land title searching.

In 1977, after a short time in his own drafting business, Iain commenced work as a Senior Drafting Officer with the then Electricity Commission of New South Wales, where he undertook a variety of drafting tasks including the preparation of a computerised Land Information System.  In this time he was exposed to and gained a detailed understanding of computer aided drafting and database software.

He commenced work in Coffs Harbour with Gutteridge Haskins and Davey in 1989 as a land development draftsman involved in civil, structural, environmental planning and urban design and survey work using computer aided drafting packages such as AutoCad and Geocomp. Then in 1992 he joined John Allen and Associates, a predecessor of RDM.

During his time with RDM, Iain has been responsible for the management of computer systems, computer aided drafting using AutoCad and CivilCad, presentations for reports and displays associated with all aspects of surveying, engineering, town planning, environmental planning and urban design.
