Michael Batchelor

Michael brings over 25 years of international survey, building surveying and project management experience to his current role of Principal, Senior Surveyor and Geospatial Consultant for RDM.

Born in the UK, Michael started his career as a Site Engineer and Surveyor on industrial projects, subdivisions and heritage building surveys throughout the United Kingdom,  the Russian far East, Alaska and Pacific Islands at large.

Michael moved to Australia in 2000, meeting his current partner Kaye in Townsville and living on Magnetic Island for 8 years.

Since arriving in Australia Michael gained exposure to survey, construction and environmental management practices in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia.

During this time, he has achieved success in a broad range of roles and been involved on projects as diverse as redevelopment of military and correctional facilities, aerial LiDAR mapping of World Heritage areas, community housing and infrastructure projects throughout the Torres Strait islands, major road upgrades and building construction projects throughout northern NSW.

In more recent times he has been involved in the resource industry driving infrastructure and construction projects across Western Australia. This has included road, rail, marine and processing infrastructure, as well as mine development itself.

Michael’s attention to detail, innovative approach and insistence upon excellent systems of work have been recognised as award-winning by the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute on a national level.

This breadth of experience, along with his love of the Mid North Coast, has led to his role with RDM and making his home in the Coffs Harbour hinterland.

Something you may not know about Michael is that he was an expedition guide on small cruise ships sailing throughout the Pacific from the Russian Arctic all the way down to the sub Antarctic Islands south of New Zealand, feeding his love of the wild places of the world.
