The Nambucca River Master Plan project was a resounding success in bringing together a divided community with many, often conflicting, views on the current and future use, development and management of the Nambucca River and its foreshore. The project is an example of excellence in community engagement and the delivery of a sustainable outcome and vision for the future of this environmentally sensitive area.
Resource Design & Management Pty Ltd (RDM) as the lead consultant put together and managed a cohesive team of professionals comprising surveyors, planners, landscape architects, urban designers, architects, civil engineers, archaeologists, ecologists, environmental engineers and consultation specialists to work on the project.
The team was challenged to: “develop an ecologically sustainable master planning concept, design and implementation plan for the use, interaction, management, development and conservation of the study area.”
Through a well thought out process involving a comprehensive community consultation program, backed up by extensive research and site investigations, RDM and its team were able to bring together the multitude of ideas and suggestions of the key
stakeholders and the community and mould them into a cohesive and sustainable vision which was shared by the community as a whole for the ongoing benefit of the Nambucca River and its environs. Put simply, we create liveable communities.
It was known from the outset of the project that the study area had a history of community conflict between the various interest groups with a specific interest in the river and its ongoing use, development and management. The interest groups ranged from environmentalists, aboriginals, fishermen, business people, developers, boat users, tourist operators, oyster growers, emergency services and others.
With respect to communications with the community and the outcomes of the consultation process, the project delivered outcomes above and beyond the ordinary. The final master plan was well received by Nambucca Shire Council and the community.
At the completion of the project the Council stated that “Resource Design & Management provided excellent service to Council and strong community communications and consultation techniques on a very controversial project.”
RDM has a proven track record in project management and master planning and we would be happy to discuss how we could benefit your project.
